Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MSS405038 - Optimise process costs

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Analyse total cost components of a process, product or service

  1. Identify all cost components of process, product or service
  2. Allocate cost components to major categories
  3. Distinguish between costs which directly deliver customer features and benefits and muda (waste)
  4. Analyse causes of costs which lead to customer features and benefits
  5. Determine methods of increasing the customer benefit/cost ratio
  6. Analyse causes of muda costs
  7. Determine methods of reducing or eliminating muda costs
  8. Analyse interactions between cost components
  9. Check that one method of reducing costs does not cause an increase in another cost or reduction in customer benefit
  10. Check that cost reduction plans do not reduce required levels of regulatory compliance or work health and safety (WHS)

Implement cost optimisation

  1. Develop cost optimisation plan that is based on analysis
  2. Negotiate with relevant people to agree on plan implementation
  3. Take actions to implement cost optimisation plan in accordance with workplace processes
  4. Monitor implementation of cost optimisation plan
  5. Make adjustments to improve plan in accordance with workplace processes
